What does Bernie Madoff have to do with MDM?

Registration labels: the ultimate master data chaos

Until Dec 2008 Bernard L Madoff operated an investment firm Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities LLC. When an investment management firm opens a new account the legal ownership of the account is contained in a "registration label". Literally a free format six line mailing label that specifies who owns the account and where correspondence regarding the account should be directed.

Out of 13,561 rows in the list 82 have the word "madoff" somewhere on the six lines and 41 have the words "bernard" and "madoff". This book of business consists of 41 accounts.

These are accounts where "bernard" and "madoff" were both values somewhere on the six columns of lines in a mailing label. The lines themselves are know as "line1", "line2", "line3", "line4", "line5" and "line6". That’s all we know!
